Notice: This Privacy Policy is intended for publication with AI Scanner on Google Play and a public website. It reflects the application's verified local-first architecture and current feature set.
1. Introduction
Welcome to AI Scanner ("AI Scanner", "the App", "we", "our", or "us").
AI Scanner is designed around a privacy-first, local-first architecture. Most document processing—including scanning, image enhancement, OCR, PDF generation, search indexing, document management, and storage—occurs entirely on your Android device.
We do not require account registration, subscriptions, or cloud synchronization to use the core functionality of the App.
The only feature that transmits document content outside your device is the optional AI Summary feature. When you explicitly request an AI-generated summary, the App securely sends the extracted OCR text (not the original scanned images) to Google's Gemini API for processing.
2. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains:
- what information the App processes;
- what information remains on your device;
- what information may be shared with third-party service providers;
- how long information is retained;
- your choices regarding your information;
- how to contact us.
3. Information We Process
A. Information Stored Locally
The App may store:
- scanned images
- OCR text
- searchable PDF indexes
- AI summaries
- document titles
- creation dates
- export settings
- application preferences
- temporary processing files
These remain stored locally until removed by you or the operating system.
B. Camera Permission
Used solely for document scanning.
C. OCR
OCR is performed locally using Google ML Kit.
D. AI Summary
Only after tapping Generate Summary:
The App sends:
- extracted OCR text
The App does NOT send:
- scanned images
- PDF pages
- camera preview
- unrelated gallery images
Transmission uses encrypted HTTPS.
4. Information We Do NOT Collect
AI Scanner does not intentionally collect:
- names
- email addresses (except if voluntarily emailed)
- passwords
- user accounts
- contacts
- SMS
- call history
- precise location
- advertising identifiers
- analytics
- crash reports
- behavioral profiles
- payment information
5. Third-Party Services
Current services:
- Google ML Kit (on-device OCR)
- Google Gemini API (optional AI summaries)
Their processing is governed by Google's own legal terms and privacy policies.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent or monetize user information.
Information leaves your device only when you:
- request an AI Summary;
- export documents;
- share files;
- email support.
7. Data Retention
Documents remain on your device until deleted.
Temporary files may be removed automatically or manually.
Exported copies are managed by you.
8. Security
We use reasonable safeguards.
No security system is perfect; users should avoid transmitting highly sensitive information to third-party AI services unless they understand the associated risks.
9. Your Rights
You may:
- delete documents;
- delete exported copies;
- avoid AI features;
- uninstall the App;
- contact us with privacy questions.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed toward children under 13.
11. International Processing
If AI Summary is used, OCR text may be processed on infrastructure operated by Google in jurisdictions outside your own.
12. Future Changes
We may revise this policy as the App evolves. Material updates will revise the Effective Date and Last Updated date.
